Our Team Specializes in Custom Microstructures

This is for that ‘cozy’ which lies in the marriage of compact and spacious.

This one is for those who endlessly wander with their feet or mind, for those who sketch wonders with their hands and hearts. This is for that ‘cozy’ which lies in the marriage of compact and spacious. This is for those who imagine, collaborate and hope joyfully for a home that will be.

Victoria is especially suited to microstructures like the ones our team specializes in. Our city is replete with backyards which, whilst beautiful, do not offer much value to a space otherwise fertile with opportunities. Our custom built microstructure sheds are both a product and a process, and a profoundly collaborative one at that. Between the creativity of your heart’s ambition and the nimbleness of our hands, there exists a beautiful blueprint just waiting to come to life.

And the Lopez charm really lies in its bespoke process. Every one of our sheds is designed as much for its versatility as it is for durability and beauty. With our skills and network we can outfit our sheds with near limitless possibilities, including:

  • Gazebo
  • Vertical farm
  • Hydroponics
  • Kids play-space
  • Outdoor washroom
  • Recording studio
  • Guest space
  • Exceptionally beautiful storage room
  • Solar powered TV room
  • Sauna
  • Workshop
  • Meditation/yoga space
  • Office

The standard design for our custom shed microstructures are typically composed of two levels of yellow-cedar beams, walls, and roofs of premium frosted glass, with a variety of finishes. Our sheds also showcase some of our finer paneling work. Our ‘tiger shed’, for example, is complete with clear coat tiger wood, and custom luxury doors.

Our CNC shed, on the other hand, is outfitted with highly custom paneling. In fact, each panel has been engraved with geometric patterns, courtesy of our CNC machines, which have then been filled with clear epoxy, and are backlit with LED lighting. Come night time, the CNC shed shines like the night sky on the face of our shop. We really can make nearly anything!

Our microstructures can be beautifully designed by our in-house team, and through the single point of contact with our general contractor, you have access to a vast world of specialist and sub-trade knowledge, including electricians, plumbers, hydroponics, structural engineers, mechanics, etc. Our microstructures can be assembled at our workshop facility, or can be assembled on site. Watch your dream space come to life before your eyes! We provide both the foundations and the means to bring your vision to life. You can initiate the start of something beautiful today, just inquire within!

Our Triple Crown Philosophy

Some years ago, I innately understood that a building structure should have three important attributes. First, it should be structurally sound. Second, it should be aesthetically pleasing. Third, it should be attainable or affordable. Ever since, I have strived to make everything I do worthy of this triple crown of excellence.

During a ferry ride to Vancouver, I saw my young son had drawn Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian man in my notebook. To my surprise, my son’s sketch led me to discover the historic importance of this idea. This world-famous sketch of a man in a circle, his arms outstretched in two different overlapping poses, has become iconic. A Wikipedia search showed me how Da Vinci was inspired by proportions described by Vitruvius in his ancient treatise of De Architectura.

Vitruvius was arguably the greatest architect in history. His work is the only major surviving publication on architecture from classical antiquity. It was written for Emperor Augustus, made famous in the Bible for his census which brought Jesus’ parents to Bethlehem. Eminent Roman architects such as Vitruvius were skilled in engineering, art, and craftsmanship. As an army engineer himself, Vitruvius had overseen all manner of building and construction for wars and settlements across Europe and North Africa.

The most famous maxim of Vitruvius was that architecture should embody three qualities: utilitias, firmitas, and venustas. In English, this means that great handiwork should be useful, sturdy, and with beautiful proportions. (Just imagine what Venus, the goddess of love, might look like.)

I was delighted and not disappointed to find out that my idea was old and not new. It gives me more motivation than ever to offer you the product of a triple crown craftsman: sturdy, useful, and beautiful work at a reasonable price.
